This time next year, I'll be starting my first year of college. There is a possibility that I will go to a university in the UK, and if I do, I will probably work there after I graduate. This got me thinking about which car I would get!

I've decided I want a car that never came to the US, aka forbidden fruit. My family has always had Volvos, so I thought I might get a V40. Economic, practical, and fairly inexpensive.

But then I remembered the dreaded 25 year import ban. If I ever wanted to come back to the states, I'd like to bring my non-US car with me, but that would only be possible if it was over 25 years old.

After a little bit of searching, I decided that the Lancia Delta Integrale might be a good choice, but I know there are better choices.

The Challenge:

Find a car located in the UK that was never available in the US. This car must be reasonably sporty/quick/fun to drive, must cost under £25,000. Cars made before and after 1991 are welcome.

I'd love to hear what you guys come up with!

This. I will give you permission to buy one of my dream cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Ford Escort RS Cosworth - a 4WD, turbocharged, Group A rally homologation special beast of a hot hatch. Rally-bred roots means the engine can take twice the horsepower of stock without the need to modify the chassis structure. If you go and study in the UK for at least 3 years, an early 1992 Escort Cossie will be import ready by 2017. Beware though, these were cars thrashed, bashed, stolen and crashed by hooligans. Insurance premiums for those were stupidly insane back in the 90s, with quotes of £25,000 per year by certain insurance companies, £3,000 more than the car was worth.

Faster to 30mph than a Mclaren F1 and will be right around 25 when you finish college.

if it's cool, and Its not made by the us, the US didn't get it.

Don't believe me?

Here:

Almost every Audi RS model

R34

Zonda

Koenigsegg (except for like 1)

Australian cars as a whole

The BMW hatchback that I'm to lazy to look up

Euro spec Passats

passat wagons (I no this isn't cool, Its just something I thought of)

Audi Avants as a whole

Peugeots

Renaults

Lancia

Ferrari 599s (Ok standards we got, but a company had to tweak the one special edition to bring it in- I remember seeing it recently)

VW Polo

VW mass Eco thing I'm to lazy to look up

merc A-class

And that's just off the top of my head, I spent more time editing this then Writing those down. The US market sucks.

I was thinking these were early 2000s! If I can find one, it could be a real contender.

Also, they cost around £14-15,000, and will appreciate in value. Future classic right there.

Arghhh I'm torn between R33 GT-Rs and those Escorts. If left in the UK, the R33s probably won't appreciate. Both would be worth a ton in the US though...

Well, with 25000 pounds you probably won't reach this (these can be found for around 35k euro, that's like 31k Euro. But: you'd probably only get it in LHD (so easy to take back with you) and these, FOR CERTAIN will increase in value.
